Grammar
Grammar is a fundamental tool, and having this tool gives you the freedom to play with language and make it your own.
Students need to understand the different forms of grammar:
Prescriptive grammar is used in academic or formal settings; thus, it is expected that the words written on the page is an individual’s best work. If there are mistakes, it will look unprofessional and can hinder career opportunities.
Descriptive grammar is less formal and more conversational, and as a result, this spoken language is more flexible than the written language.
Knowing this information is important as people in today's society are judged based on the language they speak. If my students can properly and effectively use these different grammars, they will be able to adapt to the environment around them, bringing power to their fingertips.
